Conversion Signal Lab

A six-week practice lab for teams who need Trial-to-Paid Conversion Analytics that survive stakeholder scrutiny.

Data visualization on multiple monitors

Learning outcomes

  • Define activation and paid intent events without circular metrics.
  • Equalize trial cohort windows and document exceptions.
  • Map paywall moments to qualitative and quantitative evidence.
  • Write an experiment brief with guardrails finance will accept.
  • Publish a conversion narrative for cross-functional review.

Modules

What you rebuild week by week

Week 1 — Signal inventory

Catalog trial events, ownership, and known lies in your current warehouse.

Week 2 — Taxonomy repair

Rename, merge, and deprecate events so “engaged” stops meaning three things.

Week 3 — Honest cohorts

Equalize windows, handle extensions, and separate promo trials from default trials.

Week 4 — Paywall cartography

Walk the product path where upgrade prompts appear and where they should not.

Week 5 — Experiment design

Draft one upgrade test with primary, secondary, and “do not celebrate” metrics.

Week 6 — Narrative readout

Present to peers; revise for stakeholder language without sanding off uncertainty.

FAQ

Do I need a data warehouse already?

Yes for the deepest exercises. Teams without one can use the provided sandbox, but you will not leave with production dashboards wired.

Is this a coding bootcamp?

No. You will write some queries and sketch schemas, yet the core skill is judgment about conversion signals.

What is a real limitation of this lab?

We do not implement tracking SDKs for you. If your mobile instrumentation is broken, the lab will surface the gap — it will not ship a patch.

Can marketing join without product?

Yes, though mixed pairs learn faster. Solo marketers still complete the narrative modules successfully.

Course reviews

Week 3’s equalized cohort homework exposed that our “best” channel only looked best because promo trials were longer. Awkward, then invaluable.

★★★★☆

Instructor feedback on my experiment brief was blunt about vanity secondaries. Still digesting the critique — which means it worked.

Short take: the paywall cartography module is the reason I recommend Conversion Signal Lab to other PMs.
